Hi! I’m Maria – a lifelong animal lover, pet care business owner, and now, the heart behind Yellow Dog Bookkeeping.
Before launching my bookkeeping service, I built and still run a successful pet care business of nearly 20 years – with an amazing team of 18 sitters and 3 managers who keep things running smoothly. That solid support allows me to focus on what I love most now: helping other pet care providers stay on top of their books.
With a background in accounting (former assistant controller) and in business, you’d think I’d have the bookkeeping part down... but nope! I struggled to keep up with my own books, and when I finally reached out for help, the bookkeeper I called was already too booked up to take me on.
That was my lightbulb moment! I realized no one truly understood what pet care business owners actually need when it comes to bookkeeping – the flexibility, the seasonal changes, the constant juggling act. So, I decided to roll up my sleeves and do it myself.
And now? I help other pet care pros get the support they deserve – from someone who’s truly been there.
I live in a beautiful beach town in North Carolina, where my mornings start with a sunrise walk by the ocean – seriously, the highlight of my day.
When not working or organizing numbers, I’m probably in a hot yoga class, cruising around in our Sprinter RV, planning my next international trip or looking up tiny home that I dream of living in one day :). I’m lucky to share those adventures with two amazing daughters who share my love for travel and entrepreneurship.
The heart of this business is connection. I truly love getting to know other pet care pros and building friendships along the way. There's something really special about being able to support people who care deeply for animals and their communities.
